Rickshaw art for social
change
Rickshaws are one of the most cost effective and popular means of transport in Peshawar,
Pakistan. Traditionally, the back panel is painted with various images.
Samar Minallah used Rickshaws to disseminate messages about the rights of women. A female role model called 'Mashra' was
developed as a mascot. The rickshaws were widely reported in the media.
The campaign was replicated by several other organisations.
Truck
art for social change
As a
media consultant with a Peshawar based organization, Samar used truck art to amplify
messages against 'Swara' (Compensation Marriages) in Khyber Pukhtunkhwa. The brightly painted trucks and rickshaws carried the strong messages from one part of Pakistan to another. The initiative was replicated by several other local
organizations because of its positive feedback and impact. Most
of the local rickshaw and truck owners volunteered to get their vehicles
painted because of the culturally and religiously relevant messages.
